JURY COMMENTS

“This project excels in the use of a simple precast panel system where the crisp and clean reveals support the design intent of creating a visually interesting face pattern, complementing the tastefully contemporary design. The rhythm between solids and voids help breakup the building’s surfaces from a distance, but the true high-point of the architecture is punctuated by the high quality of the consistency of the panel coloration. The precise detailing for fabrication shows sensitivity to the vision of the architectural composition.”

JURY COMMENTS

“Because of the scale of this project there are a large variety of panel sizes and configurations. The quality control aspect of this aspect of this project can be judged a tremendous success. The continuity of coloration and texture from building to building is impressive. This same statement holds true for the success in matching the existing panel coloration and textures. While the size of this project is impressive, the lower two floors of the entire complex are differentiated to make them more human in scale. Darker polished granite with overhangs and glass entrances accentuate this area where the quality of the panel system is readily apparent.”

JURY COMMENTS

“This large scale project demanded that a large number of panel types with varying colorations and textures would be necessary. This challenge was successfully and impressively addressed. The degree of difficulty in quality control was increased due to necessity of fabrication taking place at two different locations. To undertake this task and achieve product quality deserving of an award shows a high degree of technical capability. The size of this massive complex is deceptive because of the variety of building cladding used. The precast panels compliment the glazing system in such a way so as to downplay the size of the massive walls creating a play between solid and void, and transparent and opaque. To further emphasize this variety, texturing of the panels beside the windows, while subtle, was handled beautifully.”

JURY COMMENTS

“This large scale project demanded a large number of panel types with varying colorations and textures. The taller, main building has good elements to help break down the scale, and the curved portion is also handled very well. The steel and precast column detail is an excellent feature.”

JURY COMMENTS

“This visually stunning and moving memorial is a striking tribute to the victims and their families of the attack on the Pentagon on 9/11. The precast elements that makeup each bench form are highly sophisticated in their design and construction. The unique configuration of each unit required a craftsman’s hand and a scientist’s intellect to bring to fruition.”

JURY COMMENTS

“This contemporary interpretation of a traditional urban design is successful because the quality of the detailing brings to life the simple yet dignified design of the facade. The subtle coloration change of the building’s base compared to its shaft further establishes the high degree of control during the fabrication process. The quality of the fabrication of the cylinder and dome elements shows a heightened sense of pride for the project.”

JURY COMMENTS

“The precast banding of the fascia has the appearance of concrete that has been extruded through a mold. It looks near perfect,” stated the judges. “The precast elements accentuate and give character to what would have been a bland brick university building. The continuity of quality of all of the precast elements helps make this addition an appealing facility that beckons you to ‘come inside’,” they added.

JURY COMMENTS

“This project exemplifies how best to successfully restore a portion of the facade of an existing architectural gem. Not only did the various elements blend with their respective adjacent materials, the systems used showed that a near perfect solution can be achieved. Control from beginning to the end shows a mastery of this type of work. Well done! The level of detail of the new castings matches the level of quality of the original stonework.”

JURY COMMENTS

“This condo project pushes the limit with respect to creating a visually exciting exterior envelope for a multistory tower. The multicolor panel composition is successfully implemented from the building base to its shaft. The layering of surfaces that create vertical shadows which emphasize height at the entry arcade is striking due to the crisp corners, surfaces and joints.”

“The quality of the columns, capitals, arches and additional elements help create, as well as reinforce, the Mediterranean appearance of this residence,” said the judges. “The jury was highly impressed by the quality of work knowing that the producer was responsible for all phases of development, from designing to installation. We were impressed that the load-bearing columns were not only aesthetic but were functional,” they added.
