“Consistency of color in a building of this size, great quality control on precast.”

OKLAHOMA MEMORIAL STADIUM
Norman, Oklahoma

DESIGN
HOK-Sports
Kansas City, Missouri

MANUFACTURING
Structural Stone, LLC
Oklahoma City, OK

JURY COMMENTS

"The project is an elegant blend of structural and precast concrete elements that establish a framework for the stadium functions and its brick façade expression. The design is most notable for the way that precast elements allow what is a very large structure to have a humane scale throughout its overall expression and its finer details. All precast elements are well proportioned, including a memorial obelisk. The building has a bold scale and presence, embodying the nature of its function as a large sports complex."

LAURA LEE BLANTON BUILDING
Dallas, Texas

DESIGN
Omni Planners Architects
Dallas, TX

MANUFACTURING
Advanced Cast Stone
Everman, TX

JURY COMMENTS

“The design of the building is totally dependent on the success of design and fabrication of its architectural precast elements, which succeed in creating the building’s monumental scale. The design and execution achieve an accurate continuation of a monumental architectural style, with careful attention to proportions of column capitals, window sconces, and other elements. Each precast component is as close to stone as possible—balustrades, dentils, wall panels, window elements. This building is also significant for the way it has set the standards for two succeeding buildings designed in this area of the campus, through its convincing and extensive use of precast elements. This demonstrates the ability of precast elements to establish a wider campus or urban context.”

FIREWHEEL TOWN CENTER
Garland, Texas

DESIGN
David M. Schwarz Architectural Services
Washington, DC

MANUFACTURING
Advanced Cast Stone
Everman, TX

JURY COMMENTS

“The project is significant for its playful and varied use of architectural precast elements—balustrades, capitals, face panels, and small unique details employed at a wide variety of dimensions and scales. The precast elements appear as an art form rather than as decorative elements. The design and execution of the project relies on the precast elements to communicate different retail brands, which is a great success, and which leads to the wide variety of precast elements employed in the project overall.”

ONE LIBERTY CENTER
Arlington, Virginia

DESIGN
Smith Group
Washington, DC

MANUFACTURING
Arban & Carosi, Inc.
Woodbridge, VA

JURY COMMENTS

“This project is an excellent representation of the elegance and richness of Architectural Precast. A balance of meticulous detailing and bold façade
articulation was developed to make various elements function together as one successful whole. Deep precast recesses at the pedestrian level of the
building function as a base and provide a comfortable rhythm as the building meets the sidewalk. Further upward, simpler patterns of openings work
together to form the buildings façade and provide relief to an elegant cornice formed by the upper two stories where the project meets the skyline. A dramatically composed corner capped by an aggressive precast overhang form a strong corner entrance to a building that defines its surroundings.”

JURY COMMENTS

"Consisting of five buildings and two garages, this large project could have overwhelmed by its program," stated the judges. "Instead, it becomes a harmonious suite of structures which use the precast construction elements as a means of unifying the grouping. At the same time, variations in color and articulation of the material break down each building, making them less massive than they might be."

LAMBEAU FIELD
Green Bay, Wisconsin

DESIGN
Ellerbe Becket, Inc.
Kansas City, MO

MANUFACTURING
International Concrete Products, Inc.
Germantoen, WI

JURY COMMENTS

“The palette of rich materials, dynamic set of forms and the details makes this entry the most sophisticated project in the competition. The mammoth form of a football stadium is broken down by the creative use of precast, brick and steel with a design appropriately scaled and not overly repetitious like most stadiums. The large exposed concrete panels with brick inset into the panels presented technical challenges while creating a design that is interesting and pleasing. In order to fully appreciate this project, the jury suggested they be provided with a site visit while the stadium is in use (preferably in September)!!!!”

THE BALLSTON POINT OFFICE BUILDING

DESIGN
Davis, Carter, Scott
McLean, VA

MANUFACTURING
Arban & Carosi, Inc.
Woodbridge, VA

JURY COMMENTS

“An appropriate design response to an unusual site, this corner office building portrays a simple elegance with a nice scale to create a humane urban solution. Different colored precast panels are used to animate an otherwise flat façade to create depth and interest. The combination of precast and aluminum storefront present a clarity of concept, reinforced by the strong base and the strong top."

THE CHEVY CHASE BANK
Washington, DC

DESIGN
Brennan Beer Gorman Monk
Washington, DC

MANUFACTURING
Arban & Carosi, Inc.
Woodbridge, VA

JURY COMMENTS

“This twin tower office building complex creates a strong urban presence with a solid connection to the plaza and the street. Reminiscent of the great 20 th century skyscrapers, the building creates its vertical quality through its detail, emphasizing its "tallness". The lighter precast in combination with the darker granite base creates a pleasing solution. The elaborate detail at the top of the buildings is reinforced by the skillful design at the building corners.”

THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA STATE CAPITAL DOME
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

DESIGN
Franfurt Short Bruza Associates
Oklahoma City, OK

MANUFACTURING
Arkansas Precast Corp.
Jacksonville, AR

JURY COMMENTS

“The completion of the historic State Capital Building of Oklahoma demonstrates an appropriate and technically challenging use of precast to create the dramatic dome in the character of the original design. The limestone on the existing building could not be used due to budget constraints. The precast solution achieves an economical, but harmonious appearance with quality in the fit, as if one hand completed the building. This project is finishing a story rather than creating a new one.”

MILLER PARK

DESIGN
Harwood K. Smith Architects
Dallas, TX

NBBJ Architects Sports Entertainment
Marina Del Ray, CA

Eppstein Uhen Architects, Inc.
Milwaukee, WI

MANUFACTURING
International Concrete Products, Inc.
Germantoen, WI

JURY COMMENTS

"This facility is a wonderful example of how precast architectural elements can be successfully integrated with long span roof structures of a different material. The fan-shaped convertible roof is one of a few of this kind in North America. The seven-panel steel framed rood that weighs 12,000 tons can close in 10 minutes effectively clear spanning a 400 feet deep center field.

While the roof structure is spectacular, so is the embracing façade constructed mostly of architectural precast panels. In fact there are 475 precast panels that total 150,000 square feet of architectural precast concrete. These panels have been integrated into the design with great utility and economy. But they have also been used to accomplish important architectural expressions of texture and detail. The integration of brick nesting into the precast panels with simulated limestone panels of a different finish has been skillfully accomplished."

THE GLENRIDGE ONE & TWO OFFICE COMPLEX

DESIGN
Thompson, Ventulett & Stainback
Atlanta, GA

MANUFACTURING
Castone Corporation
Opelika, AL

JURY COMMENTS

"This office complex is an exciting design that successfully integrates several building types into a unified pedestrian friendly site experience for the people who work in, visit the complex, or even drive by it.

Clearly it was the team effort of the architectural precast fabricator and the architect that allowed the project to explore and to use the broad spectrum of precast shapes and finishes and that effort has made this project so successful. Columns, column covers, spandrels, punched window openings, thin isolated beams, and columns, flying beams and a cantilevered "eyebrow" all required the specialized talent and careful attention of the design and fabrication team. This project is a very attractive design that was made possible by a team that sought design and fabrication excellence on every level."

THE TWO FREEDOM SQUARE OFFICE BUILDING

DESIGN
Smith Group
Washington, DC

MANUFACTURING
Arban & Carosi, Inc.

JURY COMMENTS

"This building features a superbly articulated integration of a variety of architectural precast concrete elements that create a high rise office structure of significance.

The quality of casting and creative formwork contribute to the design excellence. The uniformity of texture and color are a testament to the quality control of precast to craftsmanship. The building features architectural precast turrets which help to create the character of the building on the skyline. Also of importance are the eyebrow spandrels and their intricate detailing."
